If I don’t open the emails on my blackberry will it not count against my data usage?

Question by Panfi: If I don't open the emails on my blackberry will it not count against my data usage?
I'm trying to keep my data usage down with my AT&T account. When my emails pop up and I just delete them will that keep it from hitting my usage?
Any other tips? Wi-Fi etc?
Thanks for the help!

I believe your usage is used as soon as you receive the message because your device is actually having to retrieve it from a server. Once it has done that its already on your phone and opening it has nothing to do with usage, its all in the sending/receiving.

If your device is Wi-Fi capable and you have a Wi-Fi hotspot close by you can use I would suggest doing that as it does not use your BB data usage because it is transferring data through the Internet hotspot and not the Internet connection on your phone. Many places offer Wi-Fi hotspots for their customers for free... because they pay for it, you don't have to. If you have Internet at home you can buy a router that will create your own Wi-Fi hotspot, which is what I did. With that I can connect my phone to my hotspot at home and not use anything from my phones data plan.

Also, depending on where you get your email, you may get flooded with spam that uses your data. If this is the case I would suggest setting up an google email (gmail) account and having your email forward there first, then having that email sent to your phone as gmail has very good spam filters.

Hope this helps!
